A Little Green Hope

Winter can seem never-ending.  Like it’s always going to be cold, and dark far too early.

A few weeks ago, Mom gave me an amaryllis gift box that Dad had (presumably) received from a client.  That seems like it might be *just* the right thing to help scare away the grey…

Amaryllis set, day one

It looks like I might have left it in the box a little too long, or it got impatient to see the sun, as it’s already started sprouting…

Expanding peet brick

One of the reasons why I love these boxed kits? They almost always come with these fantastic compressed planting bricks. One of my favorite things is adding water and watching them soak it all up, expanding outward and upward.

Sure, I already have a few plants that seem to be surviving so far, but I just love the close-to-instant gratification of a fast growing amaryllis. It should be blooming some time in February, right when I’ll need it most…
